Priya Verma is born in a humble family in Mangliya village of Indore district, her father ran a general store. In an interview, she said that her parents were often ridiculed for giving birth to a girl child. But as she grew up, she took the discrimination and general disparity as a challenge and decided to make her parents proud.
Priya started preparing for MP Public Service Commission exam but had no means to join any tutorial. She studied her own and get guidance from seniors to clear pre-exams. For mains, she got permission to attend a tutorial.
ACHIEVEMENTS
• She was offered Deputy Jailor’s post in 2015.
• She continued her pursuit and got selected as Deputy Superintendent of Police in 2016 at the age of 21.
• In 2017, she was selected as Deputy Collector, securing fourth rank in MPPSC exam at state level.
INSPIRATION
Priya Verma also inspired several youths in her village to prepare for civil services and helps them through social media. She holds counselling sessions for students and is a crusader for women’s right.
MEDIA SENSATION
Recently, Priya Verma is social media’s latest sensation. On 19th January 2020, a pro CAA rally, organised by the BJP at Rajgarh in MP, took a violent turn, when participants allegedly attacked police and officials present following which the administrative officials took on the unruly crowd. During the rally some men from the crowd misbehaved with her and the collector by pulling them by hair and kicked them at waist.
A video has gone viral for the while incident “We have lodged a complaint with the police against two men for misbehaved with us. One of the men has been identified, while another is yet to be identified, but we have his picture,” said Priya Verma.
