The safety of women is questionable in the current times. To astonish the whole of Hyderabad and then the news spread like a live wire that Dr. Priyanka Reddy, a veterinary doctor from Shamshabad in Hyderabad was found dead with her body partially burnt under Chatanpalli bridge in Shadnagar on Thursday morning. On this incident, Home Minister’s statement drew further anger from the masses,” Priyanka could have been saved if she called the police instead of her sister, said the state Home Minister Mahmood Ali. As the criminal act, got viral on the news channels, the Home minister Mahmood Ali softened his stand and covered up clarifying his remarks saying she was like her daughter and he did not mean that she was irresponsible for calling her Sister instead of police, but he meant that she had to priorities and call the police first and then the rest to avoid any such act of crime and so should any other lady in such situation be doing, is a lesson to remember as a rule of safety. “I am deeply saddened by the mishap. Stern action will be delivered to the culprit,” said the minister. “How anyone could subject another human being to such terrible, unprovoked violence is beyond imagination. My thoughts & prayers are with the victim’s family at this time of immense grief,” he said.
She went missing from Wednesday evening after which her search warrant was issued. She had worked as a doctor in Kolluru village. The incident happened on Wednesday night. She was raped, smothered and then burnt by four men who are said to be hailing from Narayanpet. She came in contact with them, as her bike broke down and she was looking for help. She has no option but to look for someone around on the lonely road at night.
As the search proceeded, the Police was successful in arresting the crime suspects. Four people were detained by the Cyberabad police on Friday. They were identified as Mohammad Areef (driver), Jolla Naveen (cleaner), Chennakeshavulu (cleaner), Jollu Shiva (driver).
As Dr. Priyanka’s bike broke down, she called her family and informed about it and also told them that she is afraid, as the bike had broken down on a lonely dark road at the evening. ” I am scared: Priyanka told sister on call Priyanka Reddy who returned home from clinic has gone to another clinic around 5.50 pm. She parked her scooter at the toll plaza and took a cab. The doctor’s younger sister told the police that her sister called her around 9.22 pm saying that she was at the toll plaza and waiting to get back her scooter from a person who took the vehicle for repair as it had a flat tire. “You keep talking until my scooter comes back. They are all waiting outside. I am scared,” Priyanka told her sister. However, later he hung up telling her sister she would call soon. Her sister said that Priyanka’s phone was switched off when the former called her sister around 9.44 pm. When the family failed to reach her over the phone, she drove to toll plaza but did not find her following a complaint was lodged with the police. Priyanka’s body was found burnt around 25 km from the toll plaza.
Four men, who consumed alcohol at Shamshabad toll plaza saw Priyanka parking her scooter and planned to rape her. And one of them (Jollu Naveen) punctured the rear wheel of the doctor’s scooter which was parked at a place so that the Dr. should not be able to flee when they executive their devil act. As Priyanka returned to take her scooter at around 9.18 pm, she realised one of the tyre was punctured. Then one of the four accused, Areef approached her on the pretext of getting the scooter fixed. Another accused Jollu Shiva, joined the act, as preplanned by them and took her scooter, for getting it repaired, and came back after some time and told her that all the repair shops were closed.
The accused, covered the Doctor’s mouth and nose tightly as they raped her causing her death on the spot. The accused then wrapped the dead body in a blanket and took it to Shadnagar and burnt the body. The CCTV images and footage proved helpful to identify the criminals. The criminals were caught in less than 24 hours of the crime and now the safety of the women is questioned on every street, nook, and corner.
