Easy Ways To Deal With Premenstrual Mood Swings (PMS)

From feeling happy to crying your eyes out the next moment, your mood can change gears in the blink of an eye during periods. You must have experienced the dreaded mood swings right before your periods hit. For some women, mood swings have become a part of their daily lives. Yeah, we hate it! But, it feels terrible when ignorant men shame women for feeling low during periods. Let’s get this straight; we feel what we feel. Going through abnormal physical pain can take a toll on anyone’s mental health. The last thing you need at that moment is someone ignoring your pain and saying that ‘You’re PMSing, and it’s no big deal!’

Cut the crap and clear your minds. Trust us; you don’t have anything to be ashamed of or worried about. Your bodies undergo drastic changes during menstrual cycles, and you deserve all the love and care. And, it doesn’t matter if people don’t understand you, we do. Read on, and you’ll find how you can deal with PMS and feel happy even during the menstrual cycles.

1. You Feel What You Eat

Your body becomes sensitive during the menstrual cycle. So, you need to be extra careful about what you’re eating. Avoid high carb foods as they will make you feel bloated. We know you feel like downing an entire tub of ice-cream but, that’ll make matters worse. Eat high-calcium foods like yogurt, cheese, green vegetables, and cereals to get rid of tired and aching bodies.

2. Remove Stress

Getting stressed will make you irritated and cranky. Use meditation and yoga to relax your mind and soothe your tired muscles. When you feel that your mind is going towards negative thoughts, put on relaxing music, and shut everyone out. Some ‘me’ time will help.

3. Do Whatever You Love

You deserve to be happy during your periods. Please pick up a hobby and pursue it in your free time. It could be singing, writing, or watching TV series. Anything that makes you happy goes.

4. Take Medications

There are over-the-counter medicines that will relieve the symptoms of mood swings. The pills act as anti-depressants and increase the amount of serotonin in your body. As a result, you feel better. But, before taking any medication, consult your doctor to avoid side effects.

5. Be Active

Take a brisk walk or go for jogging to your nearest park. The open-air will calm you down, and you will feel at ease. Exercising will stop you from feeling irritable or anxious. You can even consider doing cardio to boost your overall health. Don’t become a couch potato as that will make you sluggish and irritated.

Nearly 75% of women in the reproductive stage suffer from PMS. In severe conditions, you can always ask for help from your gynaecologist. Steer clear of negative thoughts and adopt these tips to sail through your periods with ease.
