Remo D’Souza to Make a Biopic on Late Choreographer Saroj Khan

With the demise of Saroj Khan, Bollywood has lost a gem that made the stars sparkle on the big screen. Her flamboyant dancing and ability to breathe life into any song made her popular among all the choreographers. Although we have witnessed the charisma of the late choreographer on the screen, we know very little of the lady in real life. The woman whose vision gave the stars their aura, worked silently behind the screen to watch her moves come to life.

Saroj Khan had carved a path for herself in an industry dominated by men. From working under B. Sohanlal to creating an independent image for herself, Saroj khan had endured a long journey. Many people have been wishing to know more about the late choreographer’s early life and childhood days. Talks were underway about a Saroj Khan biopic but, the dancer had always declined such requests. “what do people want to know about me?” she would ask. This shows how humble and modest she was.

What led to the idea of a biopic?

While initially, Saroj Khan had always declined requests for a biopic on her life, during her last days, she had shown a hint of interest in the topic. This was told by her daughter Sukaina Khan who revealed in a recent interview that her mother was interested in the making of a biopic on her life. Remo D’Souza had approached Saroj Khan many times to discuss the details of a biopic. “It always got pushed aside due to more urgent issues,” said Sukaina.
Interestingly, during the shoot of Saroj Khan’s last song, ‘Tabah Ho Gaye’ for Kalank, Remo D’Souza, who was also working on the song had approached the late choreographer to start working on her biopic. In response, Saroj Khan had had said “You should make it”. After getting a positive reaction, Remo had considered beginning work for the project but had to sideline it for other works.

Sukaina Khan has revealed that Saroj Khan wanted only Remo D’Souza to make her biopic as he was a dancer himself and would better understand her career and struggles. “She trusted me to make a biopic on her life,” Remo D’Souza said in a recent interview. The director-choreographer of ‘Street Dancer 3D’ fame is trying to get the groundwork cleared for the movie. “I couldn’t make this movie while she lived. But, I am trying to make this movie as a tribute to the great dancer that she was.” Remo said.

Saroj Khan passed away on July 3 earlier this year due to a cardiac arrest. Her demise has shrouded the industry in a pall of grief. In such a situation, the news of her biopic came as a sweet surprise for her fans. This movie is going to be like a dream project for Remo D’Souza who had considered the late choreographer as his mother, mentor, sister, and an idol. The dates haven’t been finalized yet but, this movie is eagerly awaited by everyone.
